Dua After Adhan

In this post we will be talking about Dua after Adhan which is also called Dua e Wasila, and Dua after Adhan also means a normal supplication that is done after Adhan. We will gather knowledge in both of these matters in the light of Sahih hadees.

DUA AFTER ADHAN
DUA AFTER ADHAN

A hadees is written below in which “Dua e Wasila” is mentioned which is also a dua after adhan.

‘Abdullah b. Amr b. al-As reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

When you hear the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.

Sahih Muslim 849

Reference : Sahih Muslim 384

Reference : Mishkat al-Masabih 657

There is a mention of the Dua e Wasila prayer in the above hadees but the Dua e Wasila itself does not exist in Sahih Muslim. The dua for Wasila is found in the hadees of Sahih Bukhari which is given below.

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Whoever after listening to the Adhan says,

Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-d-da`watit-tammah, was-salat-il qaimah, aati Muhammada nil-wasilata wal-fadilah, wab`ath-hu maqaman mahmuda nil-ladhi wa`adtahu

O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad (ﷺ) the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of),

then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection”.

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 614

At the end of the Dua for Wasila mentioned in the above Hadees, these words “Innaka La Tukhlifool-Miad” are also found in Sunan Bayhaqi Al Qubra with Sahih Sanad. So you can also add these words at the end while you are reciting the Wasila Prayer given above.

Apart from this, there are additions of many words i.e. darajat ar- rafiyya etc, are not proven by Sahih Hadees. So, in short, the prayer for Wasila given above is correct, and you should stick to it and refrain from fabricated things,

because of the famous sermon of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in which he said, “And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error.”

Dua After Adhan

There is one hadees in Tirmidhi about Dua after Adhan, which is given below for your reference. Please read the hadees and do share it with your family and friends.

Anas bin Malik narrated that :

Allah’s Messenger said: “The supplication made between the Adhan and Iqamah is not rejected.”

Reference : Jami` at-Tirmidhi 212

As it is mentioned in other Ahadees, there is no rejection of dua which is made after the obligatory prayer, and other situations are also mentioned, but this time of performing Dua After Adhan which is between Adhaan and Iqamah is quite special.

So if you reach the Masjid early and offer your 2 Rak’at Nafil, then you can use the time you have in asking what is important to you from Allah in your supplication till you hear the iqamah of obligatory prayer.

Dua is never Rejected

Sa’eed narrates that:

Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said, if a Muslim supplicates in which he does not ask anything which is forbidden or severance of relation, then Allah will surely grant him 1 of the 3 things, either his supplication will be granted as is, or it is hoarded for him and he will get his reward on the day of judgment, or one of his affliction will be removed. The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said, then we will supplicate in abundance? Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, Allah is more in abundance than you.

Reference: Musnad Ahmad 11150

It is clear from the above Hadees that, whether you ask a dua after adhan or any time for that matter, either Allah Almighty gives the supplicant what he has asked for, or gives him better things, or gives him relief from an affliction in return for his prayers, or his dua has been made a treasure for him in the hereafter, the reward of which will be given to him in the hereafter.

Hearing this, when the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)  asked that if there are so many benefits of praying, then they will pray abundantly, what they meant to ask is that if they pray abundantly, then what will be the decree from Allah. to which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said that Allah is more in abundance than you, meaning that you should ask as many times from Allah, there will be no shortage in his treasure, Alhamdu Lillah.
