Dua after wudu in English With Meaning

You may have read many supplications in the name of Dua after Wudu but in reality only 3 such dua after Wudu are there which the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) has taught.

Let us look at the hadees of Dua after Wudu one by one so that we can remember these supplications and also get the reward of reciting the hadees of our Prophet (peace be upon him).

Agar ap “Dua after Wudu” ki hamari post ko roman hindi me padhna chahte hai, to ap yaha click kar ke hamari post “Wuzu ke baad ki Dua” padh sakte hai.

Dua After Wudu

It was narrated that ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab said:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever performs Wudu’ and does it well, then says:

 أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Ashhadu an la ilaha ill-Allah was ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh 

I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger

eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever one he wishes.'”

‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whoever of you performs Wudu’ carefully and then affirms: 

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَـهَ إِلاّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريـكَ لَـهُ وَأَشْهَدُأَنَّ مُحَمّـداً عَبْـدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallahu Wahdahu la sharika Lahu, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu 

I testify that there so no true god except Allah Alone, Who has no partners and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and Messenger 

the eight gates of Jannah are opened for him. He may enter through whichever of these gates he desires (to enter).”

[Muslim].

In the above mentioned hadees and similarly in the other true ahadees, there is no mention of looking towards the sky and raising the index finger after reciting the Dua after wudu.

All those stories which mention looking towards the sky or raising the index finger after reciting the Dua after Wudu are weak stories, and you should not follow them.

In Sunan Nasai Al Kubra, there is one hadees in which the narrator narrates, 

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had recited this Dua after wudu:

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ 

Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaika

O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is no true god except You; I ask Your Pardon and turn to You in repentance.

Along with this, the quote of a tabei is present in which it is said that whoever recites ablove mentioned Dua after wudu, Allah ta’ala would preserve this act of his and will give him its glorious reward on the day of judgement.

The dua mentioned in the above Hadees is also happens to be the supplication recited at the time of rising from the gathering.

Those who go to the gathering and have committed a sin whether knowingly or without knowing it, if they recite this dua before getting up from their seats, Allah will forgive them. For your convenience, the dua to be recited before leaving the gathering is also given below. 

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whoever sits in a gathering and indulges in useless talk and before getting up supplicates: 

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ 

O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is no true god except You; I ask Your Pardon and turn to You in repentance.

he will be forgiven for (the sins he may have intentionally or unintentionally committed) in that assembly.”

The importance of Wudu

After reading about the benefits of reciting the Dua after wudu, lets read some ahadees that will make you familiar with the importance of performing wudu.

First hadees, is the agreed upon hadees found in both the Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:

Uthman b. ‘Affan reported:

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: He who performed ablution well, his sins would come out from his body, even coming out from under his nails.

After performing the ablution ‘Uthman said, “I am going to tell you a Hadith which I would not have told you, had I not been compelled by a certain Holy Verse. I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, ‘If a man performs ablution perfectly and then offers the compulsory congregational prayer, Allah will forgive his sins committed between that (prayer) and the (next) prayer till he offers it.

the sub narrator ‘Urwa said:

This verse is: (Quran 2:159): 

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَآ أَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلْهُدَىٰ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّـٰهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۙ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ ٱللَّـٰعِنُونَ

Those who hide the clear proofs and guidance that We have revealed, after We made it clear for humanity in the Book, will be condemned by Allah and ˹all˺ those who condemn.

Lets see another version of this same hadees in which there is an addition of a few words.

‘Amr b Sa’id b al-As reported:

I was with Uthman, and he called for ablution water and said: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) say: When the time for a prescribed prayer comes, if any Muslim performs ablution well and offers his prayer with humility and bowing, it will be an expiation for his past sins, so long as he has not committed a major sin; and this applies for all times.

Brothers, it is clear from the above ahadees that major sins are not forgiven by the influence of good deeds, they are forgiven only by repentance.

Whenever you hear that a sin is forgiven by reciting a dua or performing a good deed, it is always a minor sin.

Major sins are never forgiven by without repentance. But alas, today we often find major sins in our society as a common thing. Lying, gossip, abusive language, all these are major sins, which will not be forgiven without repentance. Brothers, pray to Allah and refrain from sins.
